Residents/Members of civil society in the Islamabad/Rawalpindi - TopicsExpress

Residents/Members of civil society in the Islamabad/Rawalpindi area: im sure everyone is well aware of the Metro Bus Project that has caused (and is a continuing source of) ecological damage to Islamabad. Since the courts have failed us by refusing to accept any petitions regarding the Metro Bus project (submitted not only by senators and elected representatives but also by members of civil society), there are a couple of civil society activists trying to devise a counter-strategy for the protection of our city. Please join us at 6.30 pm on Wednesday, 11th June at Kuch Khaas (in Islamabad on Main Margalla Road) for a civil society meeting regarding the Metro Bus Project. There are several points that have been brought to my attention regarding the scale of damage Islamabad is silently suffering at the hands of this Government that dug up the city overnight, to profit their own steel corporation. More than 4000 trees have been cut down (not to mention the excessive cost of the project and further environmental degradation it has caused). I urge all those who can attend on the 11th to bring their friends and family along - our silence is criminal. We are not opposed to public transport - in fact, we strive to encourage the government to improve already existing public transport (as is done around the world), create bus lanes and lay out timetables for public transport. Urging all of you to share this information regarding the meeting and ensure your presence as responsible members of civil society. Hope to see many familiar faces on June 11th!
