Responding to Danny Alexander’s pre-Autumn Statement announcement on the Government’s National Infrastructure Plan which covers transport, flood defences and housing, Ruth Davison, Director at the National Housing Federation, said: “Today’s announcements signal that government has finally recognised the severity of the country’s housing crisis. We welcome the proposals which speed up house building, bring forward land suitable for new homes and help people get a foot on the property ladder. “We also welcome the commitment to consult about changing the way housing associations value their properties to enable them to borrow more money and invest in local communities, at no extra cost to the public purse – ultimately producing tens of thousands of new homes.
