Retired President Daniel arap Moi has defended President Uhuru Kenyatta over criticism on rising insecurity in the country. This follows calls from civil society groups to the Presidents to urgently fix the security meltdown facing the country. The former president said that the issue of insecurity is the responsibility of every person and not a preserve of President Kenyatta. Speaking during the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of Moi University in Eldoret, Mr Moi rubbished calls by the civil society who have castigated President Kenyatta on insecurity issues. They are the same people who crafted the Constitution which is causing problems, particularly insecurity, in the country, Mr Moi said. He said that the civil society groups ought to provide solutions on how the country should address emerging issues in a peaceful manner. They should provide ways of improving the countrys state of insecurity in a peaceful way and not trying to cause chaos. “Are they not the ones who crafted the constitution we are currently using? he posed. Earlier, top civil society leaders in the country had called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to urgently fix the security meltdown facing the country or vacate State House for another person who can get the job done. The Orange Democratic Movement had suggested on Sunday that if the Jubilee government had failed to address insecurity, they should give up the reins of power and call for fresh elections. On the issue of innovation, the retired president called on universities to focus more on inventions that can cure diseases such as cancer and other deadly ailments
