Review on Miss World Philippines 2013 (Part 2) by JP Anonuevo In anywhoo…it was still a riveting opening number. But that was the only riveting thing about the entire ho-hum production. The swimsuit competition had a good concept with having the Philippine Volcanoes onstage. But they looked like a dormant volcano that can very well be placed elsewhere. I would have wanted an actual choreography among them as if they were holding big flags and then behind the flag is a candidate. Now, that’s putting their presence to good use. Onstage, they looked drab and boring…Not a lot of people even know who the Volcanoes are so at least the production people should have made them look ultra appealing. The swimsuits the girls were wearing weren’t as flattering (on top) as well. Last year’s gold swimsuits were waaay better. The redeeming factor was the background music. Upbeat and just right. Fun. After the swimsuit segment, Pop Diva Kuh Ledesma sang her most famous revival (of her own song) to date—One More Try—thank her TV series My Husband’s Lover for that. She was singing it live, and I still feel chills listening to her wonderful voice. Evening gowns were something to see. I must congratulate the designers for coming up with such nice gowns. If I were to rank the gowns per pageant, I would say the gowns in MWP is 1, followed by MPE, then by Mutya and then finally Binibini. MWP was truly a celebration of Philippine designers at its best. Notable candidates in this segment were Maria Paula Bianca Paz (in Cary Santiago), Patricia Ejercitado, Megan Young (the Filipina Gona Dragusha—Miss Universe 2009 2nd Runner-Up), Jennifer Hammond and Omarie Osuna. It was then Tom Rodriguez’s turn to be on stage singing The Way You Look Tonight. People were in awe of his singing prowess. He was part of a singing group in ABS CBN some years ago.
