Rich Donnelly - a Baseball Player I first met Rich in the summer of 1962 just after completing my freshman year in college. Pete Barren, one of my oldest and best friends called me and asked if I would serve as an assistant coach for the American Legion B team, the reserve team for the Post 33 . The A team was filled with 17 and 18 year old vets, while the B team was for the rookies, those who only were 15 or 16. The B team had players like, Harry Wilson, Ray Terry, Duke Milosovich and Rich. For their ages they all were outstanding athletes, but young and untested. The A team was coached by the legendary Ang Viccaro. The A team only lost one game during the regular season and that was to the B team. And so it was, and how I came to know Rich Donnley, the ball player. I lost touch with Rich after that summer but caught up with him via his press releases. Vicariously I have followed his career through the media and via conversations with others which always leads me back to that summer and that A-B game when the little guy beat the big guy with the big guys favorite play, a squeeze bunt. Rich, along with all those other youngsters makes me Steubenville Proud. With great teamwork and determination, they slew the great Goliath. Richs accomplishments characterize all those local traits which make me Steubenville Proud. Rich ultimately became a professional ball player and then transitioned into coaching. He stayed close to Steubenville and followed his sons athletic accomplishments throughout high school. More on Rich can be found in the link below. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Donnelly
