Rich Percy remembers some history of Jones Funeral Home and Great-Grandparents, Ed & Mary River: Jones Funeral Home was acquired from The River Brothers in 1936 (from History of Bellflower Community). The River brothers moved the funeral home from Truxton, not sure of what year, where they also ran a large General Store. My Great-Grandfather Ed River and his brother, can’t recall his name, sold the funeral home business to Oland Jones and his wife. There was many times Oland Jones recruited young men from the town to help him move the bodies. That’s another story. Great-Grandpa River’s brother moved to Texas, to operate a funeral home there, and Great-Grandpa River bought a farm North of Bellflower, now owned by Randall Rodgers. After Grandpa River farmed many years he turned the farm over to Charles Carpet and he and my Great-Grandma Mary moved to town. He worked at Aub Stuarts Feed Store, located to the South of Jim Oden’s Store, in the building next to the building that is now the community building. The community building was a livery stable owned by Noah Leak who was confined to a wheelchair, as I remember him. Before Noah the operator was a man named Suhrkamp. My great-grandfather was in his 90’s when he worked for Aub Stuart in the feed store. Also Aub had an ice house in his store. I remember the big blocks of ice they kept there. Hicks store now owns the feed store operated as general farm supplies. Oden Store is now gone. My Great-grandfather River lived to be close to 102. Aub Stuart’s daughter married Cedric Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oland Jones. Attached is a wedding picture of Great-Grandparents Ed and Mary River
