Road Dreams by Elliot Bristow Im sure I post about this series - TopicsExpress

Road Dreams by Elliot Bristow Im sure I post about this series every year....but hey, I always think its been overlooked, ripped off by creative agencies for years and deserves so much more attention. Its the video diary of Elliot Bristow who went for a two week holiday to the US in 1968 but ended up staying for 12 years, travelling half a million miles on the roads and filming his journey on a Super 8 camera along the way. When he returned to the UK, he had 3 trunks of film - more than 75 hours of footage. The series was first shown on Channel 4 in the early 90s and gained a cult following. Technically much of the recording is little shaky, often filmed out of car windows. But the spirit and charm of the footage is unmistakeable. Its all cut with great readings from Jack Kerouac and Thomas Wolfe. Whenever Im feeling a little low, feeling like I need to be out on the road, like today, I put this on and imagine myself behind the wheel, heading west. Ive have watched the series over 50 times - its one my biggest inspirations. There are 5 other episodes, somewhere out there on the web, if you want to track them down. Have a good weekend all. youtube/watch?v=IOkcnVrdPbw
