Rob reading up on the remains of the first street lights used in Belvere (paddle like thing on the wall). It was invented by Argaud in 1784, a double airstream oil lamp fitted out with a gas pipe.. The lamp could be lit or put out from beneath (small door opened with key) thanks to a pulley fitted to a pipe fixed to the wall. This style lighting was used throughout Paris from 1804. Just thought I would pass that gem of knowledge on to you!
