LUK 23:34 Jesus was saying, Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing. 2. LUK 23:43 And He said to him, Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise. 3. JOH 19:26-27, When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, Woman, behold, your son! JOH 19:27 Then He said to the disciple, Behold, your mother! And FROM THAT HOUR the disciple took her into his own {household.} 4. MAT 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is, My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me? 5. JOH 19:28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, I am thirsty. Our Lord was always concerned with performing the work God had called Him to do and fulfill the Fathers plan. The first great lesson from the Fifth Phrase is the importance of Him fulfilling the Word of God. The thirst of Jesus indicates that in His humanity, our Lord was thirsty for deity does not thirst. This Fifth Cross-utterance then of the Savior, which is I thirst, followed right after the three hours of darkness, during which the light of Gods countenance had been withdrawn from Him as the Sin-Bearer. This cry, then, tells of the intensity of what He had suffered, and the awful severity of the conflict through which He had just passed through. First, the very fact that He did now thirst reveals His perfect submission and reliance on the Fathers plan as a member of the human race. JOH 19:28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, Our Lord wanted us to know, Tetelestai, that the work had been finished, accomplished, or completed with the result that it would stand finished and completed FOREVER! HEB 8:12 For I will be merciful to their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more. MIC 7:18 who is a God like thee, who pardons iniquity and passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? MIC 7:19 Yes you will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. PSA 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. ISA 38:17c For You have cast all their sins behind their back. JER 31:34c For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more. ISA 43:25 I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake [because of my honor and integrity]. Furthermore, I will not remember your sin. The Lord has completely finished the work and accomplished the work of God the Father, or He hasnt, EZE 16:63 the Lord said to people who were involved with the grossest sins you could imagine I will forgive you for ALL that you have done. 1JO 2:12 Your sins are forgiven for his names sake. The One who caused water to flow from the smitten rock for the refreshment of Israel in the wilderness, had the same infinite resources at His disposal now that He had on the cross. He who turned the water into wine by a word from His lips, could have spoken the same word of power here, and instantly met His own need. In the volume of that Book which expressed the will of God, it was written that He should thirst! In death, as in life, Scripture was for the Lord Jesus the authoritative Word of the living God. In the temptation in the wilderness, He had refused to minister to His own need apart from that Word by which He lived; so now He makes known His need, not that it might be relieved, but that the Scriptures might be fulfilled. PSA 69:21 They also gave me gall for my food, And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. He shows Himself in active obedience to the will of God, which He came to accomplish. He simply says, I thirst, the vinegar is extended and the prophecy is fulfilled. He had hung on that cross for six hours, and had passed through suffering unparalleled: nevertheless His mind was perfectly clear and His memory entirely unimpaired. The act recorded here must be carefully distinguished from that mentioned in MAT 27:34, being the same as that found in MAT 27:48. The first drink of vinegar and gall, commonly given to criminals to deaden their pains, the Lord refused. Have you ever been hungry or thirsty and literally had nothing to eat or drink? JOH 15:20 Remember the word that I said to you, A slave is not greater than his master. MAT 10:24 A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master. The power to suffer for another, the capacity to be self-denying and to accomplish some great work for God should be sought after. JOH 7:37 If any man is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink., was Himself thirsty. LUK 16:24 And he cried out and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue; for I am in agony in this flame. The reason being is because we must understand that Jesus is now in some form of shock. He thirsts for the love of His Father, who has forsaken Him during this dreadful hour when He must fulfill his mission all alone. He thirsts for the love and salvation of His people, the human race. This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15:12-13. JOH 1:11 He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. JOH 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and tabernacled among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. The eyes which sin had blinded....saw in Him no beauty that He should be desired. For in ISA 53:3 He was despised and forsaken of men, A man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face, He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. LUK 2:7 And she gave birth to her first‑born son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. For in MAT 2:16 we read Herod murdered all the male children who were in Bethlehem, from two years old and under, Why stupid deceived individuals who had followed Him and His doctrines would be the very same ones who would listen to gossip about Him and cry out release to us Barrabas and crucify Him, TLJC instead. Is it any wonder why we are told in ISA 11:3 that He would not judge by what His eyes see, Nor make a decision by what His ears heard;....and yet they turned on Him and judged Him as guilty and forsook Him. Is it any wonder why we are told in JOH 7:24 Do not judge according to appearance, and yet they turned on Him and judged Him as guilty and forsook Him. Is it any wonder why we are told in MAR 4:24 Be careful what you listen to, the face book liars, the false text messages, the liars of the NET, ....and yet they turned on Him and judged Him as guilty and forsook Him. Is it any wonder why we are told in LUK 8:18 Be careful how you listen; ....and yet they turned on Him and judged Him as guilty and forsook Him. For He was never innocent until He had His day in court and was proven to be guilty, but He was guilty without a day in court and the right to face His accusers, and therefore was never presumed to be innocent. HE WAS GUILTY WITHOUT A TRIAL. Someone might say, I did not treat our Lord like that! - You are a damn liar - YES YOU DID SAYS MAT 25:40 Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me. Some so-called believers need to 2CO 13:5, Test themselves to see if they are in the faith; examine themselves! MAR 3:21, our Lord was accused of being nuts and insane, And when His own people heard {of this,} they went out to take custody of Him; for they were saying, He has lost His senses. MAR 3:22, they said He was demon possessed, And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, He is possessed by Beelzebul MAR 3:30, they said our Lord has an unclean spirit, He has an unclean spirit. LUK 15:2, He had a reputation for hanging around with sinners, This man receives sinners and eats with them. LUK 23:2, they accused of being unpatriotic, And they began to accuse Him, saying, We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, LUK 23:5, they accused of always stirring up trouble, But they kept on insisting, saying, He stirs up the people, LUK 23:14, they said he cause people to rebel, This man is one who incites the people to rebellion, JOH 7:12, they said He was a cult leader and He leads multitudes astray, He leads the multitude astray. JOH 8:48, The Jews answered and said to Him, Do we not say rightly that You are a Samaritan and have a demon? JOH 10:20 And many of them were saying, He has a demon and is insane. Why do you listen to Him? The difference between responding versus reacting means a bad situation can becoming worse or a bad situation can become better. Or the opposite can happen. The act of responding requires one to look at the circumstance, identify the problem or situation, hear what is happening and reflect. What matters is that you stopped and put an effort to think and delayed immediate judgment. This gap between the circumstance and your behavior is what contributes to gaining a sense of control in your life. Reacting on other hand is the absence of this time gap. It is an immediate behavioral response and it is usually based upon emotions and not intellect. When intellect or logic is bypassed for emotional vengeance, then there is a greater chance that irrationality will take over. In the extreme sense a person who only uses reaction over responding can become emotionally overwhelmed thus producing hysterical or illogical behavior. For one, this knowledge shows you that you have options and more control over circumstances than you realize. In addition, constant reacting to life puts you in the `victim role, a role that makes life a struggle and unfulfilling. Responding takes a conscious effort and builds mind control. Responding looks at others actions and consequences and provides a more holistic approach to behavior. JOH 15:20 Remember the word that I said to you, A slave is not greater than his master. If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also. gbible.org
