Robyn, Meg, Sonya, and I cant remember who else was interested in this.... Heres Bess Nungarrayi Price MLA :: Member for Stuart media release. I havent checked my email, but Id hazard a guess therell be something similar there... Here is a media release I sent out just moments ago regarding Whitegate and the water supply: Minister for Community Services, Bess Price, said mistruths and poor advice from people with a political agenda is continuing to hurt the residents of Whitegate on the outskirts of Alice Springs. “This government has been transparent with the residents of Whitegate the entire time I have been Minister for Community Services,” Minister Price said. “Whitegate camp is on vacant crown land and is not recognised or funded by the government as a town camp. “I have met with residents and assured them this Government has no intention of forcibly removing them from Whitegate camp or removing existing infrastructure. At a meeting on January 20 I made the offer of alternate housing, which was declined by the occupants. That is their prerogative. “I then informed the residents they would now have to deal with the local native title organisation, Lhere Artepe, as Whitegate is not funded by the government. “I have sent letters, attended meetings with the residents and had staff travel to Whitegate to ensure residents were informed of changes to the water situation and explain they now need to approach Lhere Artepe for any future issues. “I have sent letters and had meetings with representatives from Lhere Artepe to outline the situation and their role with Whitegate moving forward. “The water connection was not constructed, authorised by or the responsibility of government. The provision of services to Whitegate has always been the responsibility of Lhere Arteype. “The connection was simply a piece of plastic pipe that someone had connected to a tap in the Ilpeye Ilpeye town camp water supply. “Lhere Artepe, the representative native title body, was advised on July 8 they would need to make arrangements to supply water in preparation for the disconnection on August 11 as part of the upgrade to Ilpeye Ilpeye town camp. “The arrangement for the supply of water to Whitegate would not have been to subdivision standard and has no back flow prevention which can pose a serious health risk. “I am concerned the residents are being led on a wild goose chase through Facebook campaigns, planned protests and attacks in the media by people who are more concerned with political point scoring than the health and wellbeing of those who live at Whitegate.”
