Rockwell Hardness Testers: The Rockwell test is based on the difference in indentation depth between a smaller preliminary force (minor) and larger total force (major). Rockwell hardness values are expressed as a combination of a hardness number and a scale symbol representing the indenter and the minor and major leads. The hardness number is expressed by the symbol HR and the scale designation. Rockwell testing requires no optical measurement and so has excellent speed and reproducibility. Applications: • Steel • Copper • Cast Irons • Thin Materials • Cemented carbides • Deep case hardness materials • Shallow case hardness materials
