Ross Barkley is worth more than Juan Mata, Olivier Giroud is worth - TopicsExpress

Ross Barkley is worth more than Juan Mata, Olivier Giroud is worth more than Radamel Falcao and David Luiz is worth only half of what Paris Saint-Germain are willing to pay for him – these are just three of the interesting findings from CIES Football Observatory’s annual report. Lionel Messi – valued at £175m, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez, Eden Hazard and Neymar make up the top five but there are plenty of surprising findings in the research group’s report of the top 60 most valuable players in Europe’s big five leagues. Raheem Sterling is the top Englishman in 15th place, valued at £33.9m, ahead of fellow youngster Ross Barkley in 16th. Wayne Rooney (17th), Daniel Sturridge (19th), Jack Wilshere (26th) and Luke Shaw (46th) complete England’s six representatives in the top 60. Paul Pogba creeping in at 6th, valued at £53.2m, ahead of seventh placed Gareth Bale is surprising, as is the fact that Isco, who didn’t even make Spain’s 30-man provisional World Cup squad, is ranked 14th, ahead of the likes of Thomas Muller, Andres Iniesta and Mario Balotelli. Brazilians Philippe Coutinho (35th), Lucas Moura (37th) both failed to make their country’s squad for the tournament, while along with Bale, Aaron Ramsey (30th), David Alaba (51st) and Christian Eriksen (59th) play for countries who did not qualify. David Luiz, in 49th place, is valued at £24.4m despite being in the midst of a move from Chelsea to PSG for a fee believed to be around £50m. After Suarez and Hazard, Mesut Ozil (8th), Oscar (12th) and Sergio Aguero (13th) are the next most highly valued Premier League stars. Notable absentees from the list include Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema, Franck Ribery and Robin van Persie. Thiago Silva (43rd) is the oldest player on the list at 29, with Shaw being the youngest at 18.
