Round four of the NHL was held in blazing sunshine at harbour today with the Northland men up against Midlands. It was all go in the first 1/4 with Midlands taking an early lead that was followed up by a drag flick from Northlands IGP Aidan Rintala. Unfortunately Midlands scored 3 more goals in quick succesion and at the end of the 1/4 it was 4 - 1. The Northland boys competed well in the next 3 1/4s creating some good scoring opportunities & having periods of dominance. both teams scored again with the final score being 5 - 2. The Mark Cromie Holden Northland Women continued on their winning ways taking care of Central in a 3 - 2 nail biter. The start was oh so good with Northland scoring in the first 20 seconds through Carli Michelsen. Northland Created multiple opportunities in the 1st half but couldnt convert. Northland scored again within 3 minutes of the start of the third quarter through a stroke to Ella Gunson to take a 2 - 0 lead. Central got one back almost immediately which gave them a huge boost. They scored again to bringing the game level, only for the Northland girls to take a 3 - 2 lead after a great build up from NHL newbee Sam Polofnikoff who attacked the base line and after a goal mouth scramble Carli Michelsen put it in to get her second. This result puts the MCH Northland Women on the top of the table and in a great position for tomorrows must win game against Southern. Go the mighty Kauri.
