Ruby Bridges, who celebrated a birthday this month, integrated New Orleans schools in November 1960. A recent dedication brought her together with Barbara Henry, who though ostracized, determinedly spent the whole year alone teaching the first grader, and Charles Burks, the only surviving U.S. marshal who escorted 6 year old Ruby to, from, and during school each day. He says, “I tell my grandchildren it was one of the highlights of my life.” The article linked here is thorough and enlightening. https://facebook/amightygirl/photos/a.360833590619627.72897.316489315054055/733247560044893/?type=1 You can also watch the complete TV movie, “Ruby Bridges” by Toni Ann Johnson, who won both the 1998 Humanitas Prize and Christopher Award for the teleplay, at https://youtube/watch?v=09faLq3wT8c.
