Rufous Hummingbird By mid August, these little gems have all - TopicsExpress

Rufous Hummingbird By mid August, these little gems have all but vacated Southcentral Alaska which is most likely their northernmost breeding range; they seem to be more populous near the coast. They follow a clockwise migration pattern in North America. After they leave here, they travel through the Canadian and American Rockies eventually wintering in Mexico. In early spring they begin migrating up the west coast of America and Canada and arrive in Southcentral Alaska in early to mid May. Evidently the males arrive first and establish territories and build nests, followed by the females approximately two weeks later. Its stunning to me that these tiny little birds can travel almost the entire North American continent… Just amazing. This image is a heavy crop and a little noisy but I wasnt working with any flashes… Just natural light at a pretty high shutter speed and lower f stop.
