SATURDAY, December 13 Psalm 42:1-2 As the deer longs for the water-brooks, so longs my soul for you, O God. My soul is athirst for God, athirst for the living God; when shall I come to appear before the presence of God? Yearning is at the heart of faith, and our yearning for God may be sharp in Advent as we watch for our Lord to come. We want to see God face to face and to know God fully. We yearn for God’s promises to be fulfilled in us. We yearn for God’s love to transform us. We want Christ to save us. Nothing less will satisfy our need. We cannot save ourselves. And so we wait for God, and our waiting isn’t easy. We eagerly anticipate the completion of our Lord’s promises on earth as in heaven. Like a deer that longs for cool water and plenty to drink, we yearn for God in our lives. We look for God who brings us new life. Our Lord will refresh and sustain us. O come, Emmanuel! Come Lord Jesus! Come quickly to us who wait and yearn for you!
