SAVE THE DATE!!! Alden Solovy will be at Or Chadash on Friday November 14!!! Beginning at 7:15 pm, he will be selling and signing books before our Shabbat service, which begins at 8:00 pm. During the service, Alden will be sharing poetry and offering words of Torah. All are invited to attend this very special evening. About Alden... Alden Solovy spreads excitement for prayer. A poet and liturgist, his work has been used by people of all faiths throughout the world, both in private prayer and in public ceremonies. He’s written nearly 500 pieces of new liturgy, offering a fresh new Jewish voice, often challenging the boundaries between poetry, meditation, personal growth and prayer. He’s also a teacher, a writing coach and an award-winning essayist and journalist. The Jerusalem Post called Alden’s first book – Jewish Prayers of Hope and Healing – “soulful and meticulously crafted.” Huffington Post Religion said, “Inspired by real-life events, the prayers reflect age-old yearnings in modern-day situations.” His work appears in Men Pray (Skylight Paths Publishing), Mishkah R’Fuah: Where Healing Resides (CCAR Press) and will appear in LaKol Eit: For Every Moment, the forthcoming Rabbi’s Manual from CCAR Press. Alden’s writing was transformed by multiple tragedies, marked in 2009 by the sudden death of his wife from catastrophic brain injury. As a result, he deepened his exploration of meditation, poetry, communal liturgy and personal prayer as a healing, spiritual practice. About his second book – Haggadah Companion: Meditations and Readings – the Chicago Jewish News declared: “This is Passover poetry.” He also blogs for The Times of Israel. Alden is currently working on a new book addressing issues of profound personal pain and trauma called Prayers from the Heart Beware of Darkness ess, as well as a mythical journey told in 50 meditations called Song of the Spiritual Traveler. His teaching spans from Limmud Los Angeles to the Conservative Yeshiva in Jerusalem. A native Chicagoan, Alden made aliyah to Israel in 2012. His prayers are available at tobendlight.
