SCAM ALERT: CATI member William DePaula, President of Carolina - TopicsExpress

SCAM ALERT: CATI member William DePaula, President of Carolina Polyglot, Inc., shares this incident so other translators can be spared and escape such a situation. My wife and I are busy translating a book from Portuguese into English - under a short deadline - when a request came, for the translation of an article of 36 pages (English into French). As I read the article on Gun Control and it was not technical, I passed it on to one of my translators. Since the client has sent a prepayment of $5,032 aimed at two articles, I deposited the check, and informed the translator that the prepayment for the job was received. The translation was done, and Mr. Myles Gruwell even sent an e-mail extending the deadline for delivery - due to the 4th. of july. Unfortunately, 5 days later my bank sent me a letter, charging me a penalty of $12.50 because the five thousand dollars check was a fake! I called the company Aqua America in Pensylvannia, and they explained that I was the third translator falling as victim of Mr. Myles Gruwell. His approach is to over pay and to ask for a refund - In my case - which did not happen - the refund could be around $2,000. I did not receive a request for a refund, but the job is complete and is well done, so I will pay my French translator (who is currently unemployed and needs the money). Aqua America asked me to share the incident with my national and state associations.
