SECOND GRADERS FROM WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY TOURED CITY HALL ON TUESDAY. With Community Development they learned about mapping out a city and saw aerial photos of their neighborhoods. The Finance Department explained that when people in the city pay things like a water bill it come to their department, the kids also got to visit the vault and help with the shredding of documents. The Fire Department explained what hazardous materials are, and what to do when your house catches on fire. At the Police Department they learned that a “violation “ means breaking a rule, some important safety tips for kids and what the police car siren sounds like up close. Lastly, they met with Mayor Castillon who quizzed them to see if they could name all the municipalities (another new word) in Sweetwater County, answered questions and talked about the different services the city provides, such as maintaining the parks so kids have fun safe places to play.
