SELLING OUR PRIDE Happy celebration to Nigeria, keep on jubilating over ancient issue as if its just begin. We keep on celebrating Ebola virus in Nigeria as if we are the person to discover it. My people, let not delude ourselves, Ebola virus is not such a deadly disease to be panic about. Let me explain as a scientist and also a doctor. Ebola virus is a virus responsible for an acute infection in humans with features similar to that of #Marburg disease. Transmission is by contact with infected blood and other body fluids and the incubation period is 2-21 days ( 7 days on average). The mortality rate is 53-88%, but intensive treatment ( include rehydration in the early stage of the disease) can halt its rapid and irreversible progression to haemorrhaging of internal organs. The virus was discovered in 1976 by Prof. Peter Piot in the region of Ebola river in Zaire( Now Democratic republic of Congo), which come about the name Ebola virus. An unknown specie of animal is assumed to act as a reservoir of the virus, Monkey and bat are known to be the primary host of Marburg disease and not Ebola virus and not every feature of Marburg disease is found in Ebola virus. Let stop the assumption that vervets are the host of Ebola virus. Have you ever in a day thought of our GREAT GRAND FATHERS ( The great scientists that have ever existed on earth)?. These men in their time, they didnt rely or depend on the white men before they discover or cure any disease, they discovered alot of diseases and also its cures. The white men referred to them as Herbalist ( masters of herbs) due to the effective and remarkable works they did with herbal. Do not misconceive me, am not talking about Babalawo (with spiritual power), but of our great fathers that work with herb. My people, its obvious nowadays that reverse is the case with our Doctors and Scientists. We hardly do anything without consulting the white men. I hardly stop myself from a lengthy laughter when i heard the issue of salt bathing, what a pity?. Well, i dont blame my people,its because we lack enlightment and orientation in the country, even our journalists do us the most harm by spreading unsubstantial news. We keep on shouting Ebola virus as if is a new thing, even our problem is not Ebola virus alone but Bokobola. Our great grand fathers had already discovered the virus and its cure some years ago, they call it Sanpanna,the herb is also discovered. Let consult our Grand grand pas at home for the herb to cure the infection. We nowadays Doctors and Scientists can do more than these men because we have the potential, but it seems we are not ready.
