SHARING STOMACH INFRASTRUCTURE IN AN ATMOSPHERE OF TRANQUILITY: Pictures of Governor Ayo Fayose presenting Stomach infrastructure to men of the Nigerian Police and citizens of Ekiti state as part of the Christmas bonanza, has been trending on blogosphere. Lets be clear, I dont have a problem with Fayose or anyone sharing gifts, food items and what have you in the spirit of the yuletide. However, I have a problem with Fayose lining up men of the Nigerian Police in uniform and personally handing over a 1kg bag of rice worth N2,200 and a pint sized chicken worth about N1,000 to Police men in full glare of the camera. (Only in Nigeria! Not even in Janjaweed controlled southern Sudan). Such hobbesian humiliation of the police force in the 21st century is condemnable and should be pooh-poohed by all right thinking compos mentis Homo Sapiens. And it is hereby pooh-poohed by me! This humiliation of the bastardised force is not without precedence. A journey back in history may suffice. On September, 29 in 2010, in the run up to the 2011 general election, Mrs Patience Jonathan, the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan brought truckload of rice for the less privileged, to an event at the International Conference Centre, in Abuja. Police men who were supposed to provide security during and after the event, were caught on camera stampeding over bags of rice in a gesture gone awry as hungry Nigerians attacked bags of rice donated by the Presidents wife to the less privileged. Pix 1 shows Ayo Fayose of Ekiti presenting Christmas rice and chicken to policemen in a queue. Pix 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are historical. The next photo (Pix 2) shows a policeman policing away with his own bag of rice; A Federal Road Safety Corps Marshall and two citizens also takes their own rice safely without any issue (Pix 3 and 4), Pix 5 shows how the men of the Nigerian Police battered the people in an effort to maintain decorum and restore normalcy during the stampede. Pix 6 shows an exhausted woman flattened out on the ground after she was caught in the rice melee and two others cooling down, perching atop their rice loot. Pix 7 and 8 is Oshokomole himself, showing that you can share stomach infrastructure without a stampede. Story of Naija in an era of Transformation! Between 2010 and 2014, what have changed? Merry Christmas to all the public servants who celebrated the yuletide without being paid their salary! Lucky you if youre the beneficiary of one of the proponent of stomach infrastructure. Dazzol
