SLAVERY IS FREEDOM: Obamas remarks on the Internet (essentially we need to regulate it to keep it free) are lucky in their timing. If he had said this a week ago, many more Democrats would have lost their seats. The other problem: net neutrality is either corporatism or crony capitalism, depending on your point of view. Netflix makes a ton of money streaming videos, which hog bandwidth and force Internet infrastructure outfits to invest billions in new capacity just to keep it all streaming--but Netflix doesnt want to pay for the assets it customers demand. So, abracadabra, net neutrality is born. Suddenly wire stringers cant charge streamers any more than they charge low-bandwidth users, like email outfits. I get why Netflix et al want the unnatural discount dressed up in fancy language. I dont get why a liberal democrat like Obama wants to give it to them.
