SLUM CHILDREN EDUCATION PROGRAM(SCEP) Slum Children Education Program is a major activity has been developed by Ali Foundation. Dhaka city is currently burdened with more than 5 million slum population out of total 12 million residents approximately. Among 5 million slum inhabitants there are around 400000 children between age 5-15 years are deprived of any formal education. Ali Foundation has been providing financial support to slum children for last 25 years in order to encourage them to go to school. There are several reasons for not attending school by slum children which can be described as below: 1. Frequent change of address as they are dislocated due to eviction of slum by RAJUK or Dhaka City Corporation . 2. Parents are not capable of bearing any kind of expenses. 3. Engaging children n different small jobs by their parents for financial support to the family. 4. Lack of motivation among slum children and their parents regarding benefit of education. 5. Lack of any regulation by Government for compulsory education. Where as these children are citizen of this country and part of the society. But they are deprived of any regular education. Even though children from solvent families are 100% educated but literacy rate in the country reduced to 50-60% with inclusion of slum children. These children deserves every right to have regular education as citizen of the country. Ali Foundation as part of it’s social responsibility has designed and planned various educational program for providing regular education to slum children age between 5-15 years. These programs includes 1. Residential School : Children from different slum will be collected through extensive motivation of them and their parents about the benefit of education. These children will be provided with proper residential accommodation, nutritional food, regular education as per other schools in the country, physical training, sports activities, study tour, different cultural and social programs etc. 2. Training Program: All children reaching age 15 years will be given different Vocational training in order to avail job opportunity at the end of their regular education. These training programs will include Electrical (Grid, solar), Mechanical, Computer hardware, Mobile phone and Television repair, Hospitality service, Hospital & nursing assistant, Sales & Marketing and others. 3. Higher Education: All meritorious students will be provided higher education as per their capability. Accordingly they will be supported by Ali Foundation for admission in Colleges and Universities bearing all expenses. 4. Extra Curriculum Activities: All children will be encouraged for extra curriculum activities such as Sports, Art & Culture and others.
