SOUTH LOCHABER JUNIOUR BOWMEN NEWS LETTER We have been really busy recently at The Cubs and our Cubs are showing some very good and very impressive shooting, we have a good wee club of enthusiastic young Archers! Many of the group now have their own equipment which is fantastic and very encouraging to us to know how keen they are! The club starts at 6.30pm so we ask that if your child has their own equipment could they possibly arrive for 6.15pm in order to set up and be ready to go into the hall for 6.30pm as we only have the hour, time is not always on our side and we are finding that we are running over our time and keeping parents waiting.....sorry! COMPETITION TIME We are delighted to be entering into The Scottish Target and Field Archery Association Indoor Championships to be held this year in the newly formed Archery Club in Strontian, Loch Sunnart Bowmen will be hosting the event in the Sunart Centre on the 24th of March we would encourage all our cubs to enter and gain experience in competing against other cubs from other clubs we are confident that they are ready to progress to competition level and with this fantastic oppertunity to have a Scottish Championship so close to home is a great start to competing for us and win some medals!! Full details will follow shortly but at present we are looking at having use of the community mini bus and also the high school mini bus for travelling to the event. The cost of each enterant will be £5 but entrants MUST have their STAFFA membership in place to be able to shoot, parents will also be very welcome to attend and encourage the children. Once we know who will be competing we will be holding extra coaching sessions to be able to practice as much as possible. NEW EQUIPMENT New Equipment has been ordered for club use we are waiting on the arrival of 2 new bows new arrows and also 10 quivers. South Lochaber Bowmen have very generously provided the cubs with hi viz vests with our club logo printed on them these will be kept at the club and will be used for outdoor use at the field course in Breklet and any outdoor competitions we attend, they have also made a very kind guesture to use there "tea fund" which they collect on there club nights, to buy another 2 bows to give to the cubs for club use, a huge thanks to them!! BAG PACKING We are currently looking into again with the help of South Lochaber Bowmen to organise bag packing in Morrisons in Fort William to raise more funds for more equipment, we will be on the lookout for any parents that would be willing to give an hour or 2 of time on the day to help it would be very much appreciated. HAGGIS SHOOT Last week we had a fun night "shooting the haggis" the cubs had a great time and we finished off our night with Haggis crisps, Shortbread and Irn Bru, we are now looking into our next fun night which will possibly be Easter with a "bunny shoot" hopefully it will be just as enjoyable as the last. BREKLET FIELD COURSE With the lighter nights and longer days coming up we are intending to do a lot more Field Archery with the cubs to begin with we will be looking at a shoot every 3rd Sunday which will involve doing the full course and when we can arrange other nights for practice we will be using the mini bus to go and do some practice shoots, due to work commitments these nights will be arranged with possibly only a weeks notice but hopefully as many of the cubs as possible will be able to attend these nights. STAFFA membership must be in place to be able to attend.
