SPL off to a rollicking start... Living upto expectations is the hardest to accomplish especially when you are an organizer. But yesterday’s auction was well & truly such an occasion, which had all the involved individuals having a smile on their lips by the end of it. Inspite of being extolled as the first of its kind in IISc, there was nothing amateurish in the manner the auction was being carried out. As a matter of fact, it would have given even the IPL administrators an insight regarding time management as everything worked like clockwork. Though it might have been virtual cash, there was no let up in intensity on the part of the teams as the managers along with their icons seemed hell bent on ensuring that they acquired an enviable ensemble cast. As the managers got all decked up with their paraphernalia; sheafs of paper & laptops with various permutations & combinations, the ball was set rolling by the auctioneer, Ben who had the gavel flailing as the clock struck 10 mins to 7pm. The auction got off to a blistering start as Afsal ( Manjeri Moorkhanzzz) & Akhil (Moonar Machanzzz) turned on the heat for the first player, Ajay Joseph who was eventually acquired by Akhil for a whooping 25 C. This was just a teaser of things to come as the managers slugged it out, voraciously voicing their bids as & when their preferred player was put on the fray. Before long, we had Deekshith P (Kochi Kalipzzz) splashing 28C for Albin which eventually turned out to be the highest bid of the day. The event was never devoid of drama, as it was peppered with numerous one on one contests be it between Arunbabu (Cherthalaa Chekuthanzzz) & Naresh (Beypore Sultanzzz) for Ashith Shyam, who was eventually claimed by the former for 26 C; before Naresh pulled one right back with his bid for Nidhin Koshy or the swooping up off Ibrahim by Saneem (Kovalam Kidilamzzz) after a prolonged bidding spar with Manjeri. Eventually all the registered players were bidded off before the stipulated time of 8pm. Undoubtedly, the credit for such a wonderfully organized auction goes to the collective effort of a host of individuals with the key players being Anoop Thomas, Nithin Raveendren & Akhil G. Equally prominent has been the contribution of Judebaby, whose coding wizardry ensured that the bidding software was a breeze to work with. The whole hearted support, enthusiasm & professionalism shown by each of the managers cant be forgotten as they were the cornerstone of the event’s success. In addition, Parameswaran whose tenure as the new SIMA Secretary has just commenced has been a stoic supporter of this venture. Last but the least, heartfelt gratitude to Sanju Antony, Rohit Soman, Greegar George & other members of the SIMA executive team along with Felix Abraham & Sabari Girish to name a few for their uninhibited co-operation. Finally before concluding, all of this wouldn’t have been possible without the exuberance of the spectators who made the auction all the more lively. With the auction done & dusted, it’s time now to start the countdown for the SPL kick off. So until then it’s cheers from the SPL team!!! Regards…Ben
