"ST LUCIA PRESENTS A “SNEAK PEEK” INTO ITS OFFERING TO CARIFESTA XI 2013 The Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) in collaboration with the Carifesta Organizing Committee will be presenting what is being dubbed a “Saint Lucia Pre-CARIFESTA Showcase” to the public next week. The event will be staged at the National Cultural Centre on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 7.30 p.m. and will provide the public with a sneak peek into what Saint Lucia will be presenting at the 11th edition of one of the Caribbean’s most prestigious art and cultural events. Held every four years, CARIFESTA seeks to expose the talent of Caribbean people in a number of genres. Saint Lucia, with a contingent of 45 artists, will be presenting in the areas of visual arts, craft, theatre, dance, music, literary arts, film and fashion. CARIFESTA XI, 2013 will be held in Paramaribo, Suriname from August 16 – 25, 2013 under the theme; “Culture for Development: Celebrating Our Diversity And Promoting The Central Role Of Culture In Economic, Social, And Human Development”. In keeping with the general trend in this Carifesta, Saint Lucia will be showcasing original innovative works from some of its most talented young artists, together with top quality selections from some of the island’s more established artists. The artists will give Saint Lucia representation in more artistic genres than in any previous Carifesta. In the lead-up to CARIFESTA XI 2013 in Suriname, Executive Director of the CDF, Kennedy “Boots” Samuel promises the Saint Lucian public an evening of rich entertainment and high quality performances on Monday night. “We will present a pre-CARIFESTA showcase to the public, so they can appreciate what we will be presenting on their behalf, because we are representing our island St. Lucia and all of our people. “Our artists have been working very hard and we are very proud of them and I think all other Saint Lucians will be proud of them too, when they see what they will be doing at Carifesta.” Mr. Samuel said. Monday’s Pre-CARIFESTA Showcase will be held at the National Cultural Centre from 7.30p.m. Admission is $10.00."
