STATEMENT from Jon Doney MBE, Peter Gillespie, Jane Pelly, Liz Edgar, Alan Golledge, Dianne Duggan, Bob Ellis, Vicki Morton and Jane Twemlow (the Group). Following months of change being implemented without due consideration of the consequences to members and excessive complaints and criticism being communicated to BS without satisfactory response, several members came together to discuss the situation in May 2014. This group have subsequently made attempts to advise the Board of the problems with the lack of communication and everyday management of the sport. Riders, owners, parents, show organisers and officials have all suffered with the confusion over the many rule changes and policies put in place and this has resulted in concerned members organising meetings to discuss the problems and to convey to the Board that improvements should be made i.e. November 2013 a meeting held by officials at Addington Manor regarding concerns over the training and Pathways for officials December 2013 and the SOS (Save Our Sport) Meeting held by members also at Addington Manor. The Show Jumping Officials Club Meeting in November 2014 where the Chairman and Chief Executive were invited in order that Club members could discuss the many issues. The 2014 AGM, where members present were persistently misled by the Board over the filing of the accounts when the accounts had already been filed at Companies House, where questions were unsatisfactorily answered and the eventual adjournment of the meeting led to the Group considering a course of action. A subsequent meeting between two Board members and two Group members was held in November 2014 in an effort to resolve issues raised at the AGM but, again, unsatisfactory or insufficient responses were made. Following all of this, the Group sought legal advice as to how to remove certain Directors, those in the two showjumping specific roles and the Chief Executive and Chairman. The process the Group are following, in accordance with Company Law, is to require BS to convene a meeting where members will be asked to vote on three Resolutions. In order for this to happen 5% of the voting membership are required to sign a Requisition for a General Meeting form. The Resolutions cover the removal of the four directors, the replacement of these directors by Jon Doney, Liz Edgar, Peter Gillespie and Jane Pelly and changes to the National Sport Committee (NSC). The NSC is the committee that makes the decisions regarding our sport. The membership have not been satisfied with the decisions made. Individual members on the committee have knowledge about certain aspects of the sport but this important committee needs the most experienced people with a greater overall knowledge and a history of making decisions for our national sporting body. Once the necessary amount of signatures have been received, Special Notice will be served on BS for the removal of the four directors and requiring that a meeting be convened where members will then be able to vote on the Resolutions. If successful, these actions are to be temporary with experienced persons, named above, being put in place to address the changes required in conjunction with the Members Council and with new members on the National Sport Committee. This will be until such time that knowledgeable members are identified who are willing to stand to take over. We hope that you will support this action to address and improve the current situation with British Showjumping. December 2014 The form required to sign and submit is in the pinned post at the top of the page.
