STRETCH OF THE WEEK: Calf Muscles With summer fast approaching, - TopicsExpress

STRETCH OF THE WEEK: Calf Muscles With summer fast approaching, the flip flop is replacing those hideous Hunter rain boots. This means by the end of the summer there will be a lot of people making appointments with their RMTs. Why? because flip flops cause your foot to actively grip with your toes to keep the sandals on your feet. This overworks your foot muscles which may lead to plantar fasciitis and tight calves. I know, I know - your Swarovski flip flops match your little summer dress so much better than those comfy Asics. So here are a few stretches you can do to help with the tight calves: GASTROC (Outer layer): 1. Sit on the floor with both your legs straight out in front of you 2. Wrap a towel around the ball of your foot (just below where the toes meet the foot) 3. Actively point your toes towards your nose, pulling with the towel with both hands to keep the foot aligned and the towel taut 4. Feel the stretch in your right calf 5. Repeat with other leg For SOLEUS (Inner layer), do the above BUT make sure you keep your legs slightly bent. HOLD for 30 seconds SETS: aim for 2 to 3 per side FREQUENCY: 3-4 times/week
