SUBMITTING TO SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you (Hebrews 13:17) God is wise and has set people over us for our growth and productivity, these people will be held accountable for their influence on the last day. Disobeying such people would be unprofitable to us, for it will cause them to work with grief, and not watch for our souls the way they ought to. This explains why the lives of many Christians are in disarray; they are ignoring what they should be acknowledging, and thus, living lives they are ought not to live; they mourn and groan, mumble and jumble, mutter and sputter, but nothing works to their advantage. Disobeying your spiritual leaders (those set over you in the Lord) is equivalent to disobeying the Lord Himself. ...behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry... (1 Samuel 15:22 - 23). Now, am not talking about just anyone who stands behind the pulpit, am making reference to your Pastor and those over you in the house of the Lord of which you are a member. The house of the Lord is a house of order; God ordains the leadership in every true church. What Paul said to the church at Thessalonica I say also to you: And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and ARE OVER YOU IN THE LORD, and admonish you; to ESTEEM THEM VER HIGHLY IN LOVE FOR THEIR WORKS SAKE... (1 Thessalonians 5:12 - 13). Obey them, submit to them, support and celebrate them for their works sake, that they do it with joy and not with grief, for this is unprofitable to you. Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly... (1 Thessalonians 5:14). Warn such folks, they are destroying their own lives. They will not prosper if they continue on this path, warn them, and tell the younger believers to stay away from such company - it destroys good morals. I speak as one who has obtained mercy from the Lord, and exhort all of you to walk unto all pleasing in the Lord. God bless you.
