SUNDAY, 10/5/14 Acts 1:12-14 “Acting Like the Apostles!) (By Barry) WORSHIP: https://youtube/watch?v=N7Z34llEY4w SCRIPTURE: blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Act&c=1&t=NLT#s=1019012 Last week, we read about Jesus returning to Heaven. His work on earth is finished, and the Holy Spirit will soon take His place. The angels told the followers of Jesus that He will eventually come back the same way He left. And now, it’s time for them to obey Him, and get to work. So, they walked back to Jerusalem, and as they waited there, as Jesus had told them, there are three things that stand out: —A. They didn’t try to be followers of Jesus all by themselves. They recognized that they needed each other, so they MET TOGETHER. Constantly. It is almost impossible for us to be successful in our quest to be Christians if we don’t team up with other Christians! —B. Not only did they meet together, but they PRAYED together. So, if this was such an important thing for the early followers of Jesus, maybe we ought to make it a higher priority, too! —C. There were more than just the eleven apostles there. There were several women, right from the beginning, along with the brothers of Jesus. And there were others. It was NOT just the apostles. It is important for us to see that other people played a huge role in things. This is God’s intention. There are no second class citizens of any kind in the church! Thoughts & Questions: —1. As you listened to the song today, describe your worship experience. What kinds of thoughts went through your mind during your worship time? —2. Are YOU following the example of the early apostles? Who do YOU meet with on a regular basis? How are you planning your growth in your walk with Jesus? Let me hear some examples of (1) how you ARE doing this with someone else, or (2) how you HOPE to, soon. —3. How often do you pray with someone? We often make that a really tough thing, and it’s not supposed to be? What can YOU do this week to get better at praying with someone? Who are you going to pray with? —4. How much of a priority is prayer for you? What are some issues (not excuses) that keep you from being the person of prayer you want to be? PRAYER: Who can you identify that would be a good person to pray with this week? Why don’t you pray about taking some big steps in your prayer life?
