SYNOPSIS: Happy Monday! Im back with a look at the weather synopsis... ASIA: Severe Tropical Storm #Hagupit continues to move over the northern Philippines, and it will provide plenty of strong winds and heavy rainfall. Despite its weaker status, the storm is of concern because of the low-lying, flood-prone areas where the storm is located. Expect this system to slowly move westward before departing in a couple of days. In Japan, expect snowy weather for the northern portions of the country as continued wet conditions, combined with very cold air from a nearby high produces the wintry weather through Tuesday. The high will then take over, providing sunny weather by mid-week. OCEANIA: Calm conditions are controlling the western and central portions of Australia, and it will likely remain in place through mid-week. Instability is providing strong storms across Queensland, with the most severe portions of the activity taking place along the Gold Coast into Brisbane. This will continue into at least Tuesday. Expect the cloudier conditions in New Zealand to give way to showers for South Island, while the rain on North Island starts to taper off. EUROPE: A cold front is slipping through the western and central portions of the continent, along with a cluster of low pressure areas to the north, producing plenty of instability and wet weather. Rain is possible from the British Isles through France. Another low in the eastern Mediterranean will bring lots of rain for the Balkans and into Turkey this Monday. NORTH AMERICA: Expect to see some wintry precipitation from the upper mid-West through the Great Lakes as a low pressure system moves through southern Canada. Temperatures will be topping off around freezing to the low single-digits (C). This may lead to some hazardous driving conditions as freezing rain and sleet become more of an issue than the possible snowfall. Some rain and clouds are going to be in place for the eastern side of the United States with possible flurries scattered for the northeastern US. The US Pacific Northwest will once again see rain for Monday, while high pressure produces drier conditions for the Rockies and warm temperatures for the Central and Southern Plains. Hope you have a magnificent Monday wherever you are!
