Salary delay: Accountant General warns MDAs on compliance with uniform account numbers Premium Times - 6 hours ago NATIONAL, NEWS All Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that are yet to comply with the Central Bank’s directive on the Nigerian Uniform Bank Account Number (NUBAN) policy have been directed to do so immediately. The Accountant-General of the Federation, AGF, Jonah Otunla, who gave the directive on Friday in Abuja, advised the affected MDA’s to update the bank details of their staff to avoid unnecessary delays in the payment of their salaries. This directive was contained in a press statement signed by the Deputy Director, AGF’s Office, Charles Nwodo, which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Abuja. “Failure to comply may result in some delay in the payment of salaries, henceforth. “However, if any staff experiences any delay in the payment of his or her salary, he or she should confirm that the banking details have been accordingly updated and forwarded to IPPIS,’’ the statement said. The Central Bank released the guidelines on the NUBAN scheme in August 2010, to achieve uniform numbering structure among all money deposited in banks in Nigeria within nine months. NUBAN, according to the Central Bank, “has great potentials to resolve the observed problems with electronic payments in Nigeria, as many of them are related to specification of wrong beneficiary account numbers’’. The initial deadline was June 1, 2011. This was extended by the Central Bank to June 1, 2012, at the expiration of which it was further extended to July 1, 2013. Consequently, NUBAN became fully operational on July 1, 2013 and all banks were expected to have had the policy fully operational0.
