Sanitary Sewer Overflow AMENDED The City of Big Spring has identified a collapsed collection line that resulted in a sanitary sewer overflow near the intersection of 11th Place & FM 700. The sewer remained contained in a natural sand berm. The City of Big Spring installed a bypass pump into the system prior to the faulty line to remove sanitary sewer and divert it to another manhole bypassing the damaged area and containing the flow back into the proper wastewater system for appropriate disposal. No eminent danger is expected from this occurrence due to the appropriate diversion of flow back into the sanitary sewer system. Once the area has been cleared, the City of Big Spring will perform flushing of the area with water to dilute and treat the area and perform area remediation However, as a precautionary measure it is requested that citizens adhere to the following: 1. Persons using private drinking water supply wells located within ½ mile of the spill site or within the potentially affected area should use only water that has been distilled or boiled at a rolling boil for at least one minute for all personal uses including drinking, cooking, bathing, and tooth brushing. Individuals with private water wells should have their well water tested and disinfected, if necessary, prior to discontinuing distillation or boiling. 2. Persons who purchase water from a public water supply may contact their water supply distributor to determine if the water is safe for personal use. 3. The public should avoid contact with waste material, soil, or water in the area potentially affected by the spill. 4. If the public comes into contact with waste material, soil, or water potentially affected by the spill, they should bathe and wash clothes thoroughly as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding on this matter. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact: Public Works at 264-2501. Thank You. City of Big Spring
