Sarah Kater asks: Im a hobby baker, I dont take orders from anyone & only bake for myself for my own parties & events, or if I want to take something to an event as a gift. However I still like to bake to a professional standard for the enjoyment & will occasionally, but consistently, purchase the top equipment, products & gadgets when I can afford it. Trouble is I have a friend who likes to bake a little bit (not enough to buy anything of her own), but seeing my creations & my equipment, she thinks she can use me as a free hire place. Of course I dont mind lending things to friends on an occasional basis, but she does this all the time taking my things & at times it really feels like I buy things with the given assumption that she can & has the right to take them. What can I do? Bearing in mind she is a good friend otherwise & straight up saying No is obviously not going to work in a situation where you want to keep things on a good note. I have started to hide certain things from her, but if I use a certain fancy mould on a cake & she sees it, then how can I explain what I used to create the mould without admitting I bought it. She will immediately want it & take it to use as her own. Like I said this would be fine if it was a friend who occasionally borrows things, but this I am literally treated like a free hire place for her to help herself too. Its also very tiring for me to be constantly having to ask for my things back, & almost being made to feel like the bad one wanting things back, especially when she says she still wants to use it for longer.
