Saturday, July 26, 2014 @ 4:04 PM, report of 4 hikers (3 males, 1 female, ages 15-21) on Volcan Mountain trail needing assistance. Their parents called 911 asking for them to be rescued due to fatigue and no water. They had started their trek earlier in the day at the Volcan Mountain trailhead and had gone to the top. By 4:28 PM, 2 of the hikers had returned to their vehicle on their own and were OK. Cell phone communication with the remaining two was sporadic but working. The last two were contacted and told to remain in place on the trail and not to proceed further due to their exhausted condition. At 5:36 PM, the sheriffs helicopter had picked up the last two and dropped them off at the Julain FD for first aid. All subjects eventually went home without serious injuries.
