Saturday, July 5, 2008. Six years ago between the hours of 1:30 & 6:30 of that Saturday morning he had a stroke. Not a particular big stroke in size - had it been on any lobe of the brain- but in his case it settled in his brain stem. Small stroke in a small area - devastating results. He was snoring heavily, no indication he was in trouble. He worked a minimum of 16hrs a day that week prior to Saturday. We were pregnant with our second child, going to look at a new family vehicle that was more reliable than what we had. I went for a shower instructing our 4 yr old son, to leave daddy alone. Out of the shower I go to our room. Braeden has removed all blankets and pillows from the bed. He says to me, Daddy wont wake up. Thinking he just wants to sleep in, I shoo Braeden out of the room. I quietly sneak up on him and tickle him. He moans, but no physical movement. I tell him its okay, Braeden is out of the room wake up. He moans again. As I am putting the blankets back on him, I realize that he has lost control of his bladder. Panic, disbelief sets in.... this is where our story begins.... Those of you in this group have traveled this path with us through my updates of personal thoughts, medical information, and just plain old venting. Thank you for being there to listen, support and love- love this man who found me! His struggles have made me and the boys better persons. We have him to thank, for staying alive when I know soooo many times he wanted to give up! So, today as I think about that horrific moment in our life, 6 yrs ago, I find peace finally. We are living the life of family, love, disfunction, growth, difference and indifference. We laugh, we struggle, we soar, we fail. WE LOVE AND WILL NEVER GIVE UP ON EACH OTHER! Love and hugs, The Gagateks
