Save the date: January 24, 2014, Friday, at Dickens Pub. Higher Ground will be holding a fundraiser for the incredible, Miss Salem. This young little girl with cerebral palsy, has been fighting since she was born. Due to a slip-up that occurred during one of many surgeries, she was set back even further developmentally. Alberta Health only covers a small portion of her medical needs, and much needed physiotherapy. Thanks to her devoted parents, they have gotten her into a chartered arts school where she was THRIVING! Only to find later on that she will no longer be able to attend that school due to lack of funding in order to accommodate her needs. calgary.ctvnews.ca/scholastic-future-uncertain-for-student-with-cerebral-palsy-1.1441754 And to top it all off, little Salem will be undergoing further surgery this summer. She will be on bed rest for over 2 months, and needing months of physiotherapy - where only the first couple of visits are covered by Alberta Health; the rest must be paid for by her parents. Salems parents are hoping to take her to a hospital in Chicago that is fully equipped and experienced performing the type of much needed surgery for Salem - but the cost will be in the tens of thousands - a cost that is not covered by Alberta Health care. Please spread the word and/or consider helping out this wonderful family. They have overcome many battles and still have many more to go, with no family here.
