Say hello to the Andromeda Galaxy, the creationists nightmare. According to old earth creationists, be they Muslim or Christian or Jewish, the earth is roughly 6-10 thousand years old. However, if this were true than the furthest object we could see in the sky would only be 6-10 thousand light years away. The Andromeda Galaxy is 2.5 million light years away, meaning the universe could be no younger than 2.5 million years old. Now, the funny thing about the Andromeda Galaxy is that it isnt even the furthest thing away from us that we can see in the sky. Our telescopes (by ours I mean astronomers, because I personally dont own a telescope) have found objects billions of light years away. Before any young earth cultist tries saying that light years measures distance, not time, (*cough* Ken Ham *cough*) the term light years refers to distance measured by the amount of time in which it takes light to reach its current position to the earth. In other words, it takes 2.5 million years for the earth to get the light from the Andromeda Galaxy. I get it, some old earth creationists try claiming that the earth isnt 6,000 years old, or try squawking to me about how the Bible doesnt actually say its that old and pull a Pat Robertson on me. Im not talking about you guys. Thats a discussion for another time.
