Scores of people under the banner of the Rohtak district unit of CPI (M) staged a sit in and blocked the main gate of the Deputy Commissioner’s office after they were prevented from laying seige to his office on August 12. The Party was demanding an immediate survey of BPL applications, residential plots, 35 kg grain monthly to all needy families, curbing corruption in MGNREGA and enhancing the wages as well as work days to 200, disbursement of compensation for crop loss during last year, scrapping contract system, regular jobs of scheme workers like ASHA, Mid day meal, Anganwadi, immediate relief for drought conditions, unemployment allowance to all jobless persons. The protesters were assured by the DDPO that a joint meeting would be convened with concerned officials on August 13 to discuss these issues which CPI(M)leadership would also be invited. The sit-in lasted an hour.
