Secondary school teachers have become the whipping boys of - TopicsExpress

Secondary school teachers have become the whipping boys of everybody in the country. They are always blamed for the poor performance of the students because of the readily available statistics from NECO and WAEC. How many Nigerians had cared to go to those schools to assess the facilities on ground? Many of the schools look like war ravaged areas, no furniture for teachers, they are poorly paid, unstable educational policies etc. Nigeria could perform an experiment and conduct unified examination for all final year students in our tertiary institution to assess the performance of these students and their lecturers. Lecturers in tertiary institutions are better paid whereas they do less work than secondary school teachers. In the sec schl you have to ensure the regularity and punctuality of the students whereas in the university it is none of their business. Sec schl teachers mets see to the orderliness of the compound but this not the case in the universities. Nigerians need to realize that frequently our students in higher institution stay due to strike action leading to loss of academic years but the nation had never witness the skipping of either WAEC or NECO for a year. Secondary education should be accorded better attention instead of calling teachers names. How many times have blamed our doctors for the avoidable deaths in our hospitals? How many times have crucified our engineers for collapse buildings. These are people who are well paid compared with secondary school teachers. Statistics will show that more than 90 percent of teachers will never want their children to be sec teachers. God will help this nation by giving us leaders that will improve the lots of teachers in the secondary schools. Amen
