Senator Ajibola emerges as Kwara PDP gov candidate, Senator Simeon Ajibola has defeated 11 others contestants for the governoship ticket under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State. The result of the primary, held at Ilorin, Kwara State capital, on Thursday night, was announced at about 4:45 a.m on Friday. Senator Ajibola polled 144 votes to come top while Mohammed Dele Belgore got 132 votes, Senator Gbemisola Saraki, 113 votes and Senator Suleiman Ajadi, 107 votes, Professor Oba Abdulraheem polled 58 votes, Hon. Bio Ibrahim, 45 votes and Alhaji Hakeem Lawal, 33 votes, Other contestants were Mr Jani Ibrahim, who got 27 votes, Mr Sunday Babalola, 3 votes, Mr Kale Belgore, one vote, Deacon John Dara, 16 votes and Alhaji Abdullahi Kaiama, no vote. Saturday Tribune gathered that a total of 680 delegates were accredited out of 709 delegates for the primary, while 29 delegates were absent and two votes were voided. It was gathered that the election was conducted under a serene and peaceful atmosphere amid tight security. Speaking after declaring Senator Ajibola as the winner, Governor Suswan commended all the aspirants for the way they conducted themselves and displayed high sense of maturity.
