Senegal pick Casablanca for Elephants Senegal Football Federation opted for the Moroccan city of Casablanca as venue for their home game against Ivory Coast in the 2014 World Cup qualifying knockout following Fifa / Caf suspension on the Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor in Dakar. Coach Alain Giresse had wanted to play in Mali, a familiar ground where he worked as the national team coach for two years, but the FA decided on Casablanca. “We chose Casablanca because it is more accessible than Marrakech and also because we’re sure of more local supporters there,” the FA chairman Augustin Senghor said in a statement on Wednesday. “We have already played a couple of home matches there and understand the place very well. There’s no need bothering ourselves to go to new venue.” The encounter will take place at the Mohammed V stadium in November while the first leg will hold in Abidjan on October 11. Senegalese authorities have disbursed about $210,000 (R2m) to the Teranga Lions for preparations ahead of the crucial meetings. The team will commence a training workshop in Paris, France early next month.
