Senseless and cowardly brutality of unprovoked attacks on innocent people who are only trying to enjoy themselves in nightclubs is not confined to Australia. Heres some proof. Gardai have confirmed that they are investigating an assault on former Derry star Eamonn Burns. The 1993 All-Ireland winner is understood to have suffered serious facial injuries during the unprovoked attack, which took place in Buncrana, County Donegal in the early hours of Sunday, February 23rd. Burns - a teacher and coach at St Columbs College - was in Buncrana on a team-bonding weekend with the Ballinascreen seniors. He is a former St Colms player who now serves as part of their management team. The 42-year-old is believed to have been assaulted on Main Street as he made his way home after a night out. He was treated for fractures to the face at Altnagelvin Hospital. Derry GAA was sickened by the attack with Ballinascreen club chairman Frankie McCloskey noting that you wouldnt get a nicer or quieter chap than Eamonn.
