Sep 26, 2013 Tragic attack on Christian community in Pakistan The death toll from a suicide bomb attack on a historic church in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday had risen to 81 by Monday. A pair of suicide bombers blew themselves up amid hundreds of worshippers. A wing of the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the bombing and said they would continue to target non-Muslims until the US stops drone attacks in the remote tribal region of Pakistan. Angry Christians denounced the deadliest attack ever in Pakistan against members of their faith. They blocked roads around the country on Monday to protest the bombing. Christians are a minority in Pakistan and have often been attacked by Sunni Muslim militants. 30 people injured during industrial action in Bangladesh At least 30 people were injured when garment factory workers clashed with police outside the Bangladeshi capital Monday during a strike to demand higher salaries, police said. Police fired rubber bullets and teargas when the protesters damaged cars and factories in the Tongi, Ashilua and Gazipur industrial areas. The clashes lasted for at least an hour and the protesters threw stones at police and put barricades on a highway that connects the capital with northern districts. The workers went on strike for the second day Monday, demanding a starting minimum monthly wage of least 100 dollars in the garment factories that produce clothing mostly for Western clients. UN-report to remind of need to curb global warming Researchers and government representatives were to gather Monday in Sweden to finalise a UN climate panel report expected to offer further support that man-made emissions drive global warming. The report is from one of three working groups in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). It focuses on the scientific basis of climate change, including changes of temperature, oceans and glaciers, clouds as well as the influence of man. The IPCC study draws on the work of hundreds of experts and thousands of comments from expert reviewers and governments. Leaked drafts suggest the upcoming report will conclude with even greater certainty than the IPCC’s global report from 2007 that man-made emissions are the main cause for rising global temperatures since the 1950s. Environment group Greenpeace, an observer at the meeting, said the pending report would serve ‘as a timely and crucial reminder’ of action needed to curb global warming.
