September 29, 2014 President honored memory of Babi Yar victims. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko took part in the ceremony of paying tribute to the victims of Babi Yar tragedy. The Head of State laid flowers to the monument of citizens and war prisoners executed by German fascists at Babi Yar. The participants of the ceremony honored memory of the victims with a moment of silence. Speaking of lessons of Babi Yar tragedy, the Head of State noted that it was a reminder to the whole world about the danger of war and the value of peace. Ukraine will never allow recovery of fascism, ethnic persecution and partition of the country by language, faith or any other feature. Ukraine will remain united, the President said. The Head of State emphasized that only united Ukraine can overcome risks and threats it faces today. The ceremony was also attended by Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Turchynov, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Head of the Presidential Administration Borys Lozhkin, Kyiv RSA Head Volodymyr Shandra, representatives of the Presidential Administration and the Government, public representatives and clergy. On behalf of the President, flowers were also laid to the memorial sign of Minor, memorial Cross to the members of the underground resistance of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and to the Roma memorial at Babi Yar. On September 29, 1941, when Kyiv was occupied by Nazis, mass executions of civilians started at Babi Yar. Almost 34000 citizens, most of them Jews, have been killed in two days.
