Sermon: Faith and unbelief Scripture: Matthew 17:14-21[NIV] 14 When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son,” he said. “He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16 I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.” 17 “You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.” 18 Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment. 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” 20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” ……………….......... The disciples could not cast out the demon because of unbelief even though they had faith. Jesus went on to say that if one can only believe all things are possible. The problem with many today is that they have faith but do not believe. The disciples had faith and believed until they saw a white substance forming on his mouth and they lost it. We need to understand whenever there is faith there are many spirits that come in to cause confusion and you fail to believe and hence loose on what you are having faith towards. Faith and unbelief are two different things. Iit took faith for the father to take his son tor the disciples. Many do not have a faith problem but a belief problem. The disciples went to Jesus privately and asked him why they failed to cast out the demon. They had faith that is why they initially prayed for the boy but what they lacked was belief. Believing is the action you take after having faith and the problem is that action. If those that require cars are asked to stand many will stand but very few have driver’s licences and very few know the prices of their desired vehicles. It is a simple sign that they have faith but they do not have belief. When a declaration is made over your life the step you take towards acquiring it is what matters. It is at that point of your breakthrough that the devil brings in problems to shake you up so that you lose out. Do not give him a chance to rob you of your testimony. Do not be intimidated by the devil keep in mind that God is in control. The only way of attaining results is the action you take after having faith. One Pastor boarded a bus at some point without money and had faith that God would provide for him. He took leaves with him as he had faith that those leaves would turn into money. As they traveled he kept checking on whether the leaves had turned into money but it was not so. Fear gripped him as the bus conductor got close to him and his greatest fear was intimidation for failure to pay. His turn to pay came and he got the shock of his life when the conductor exclaimed after setting his eyes on him. He was happy to see his Pastor on the bus and offered to pay for him. Your actions will support your faith, do not be limited by your situation or environment, just believe! We give all glory to God.
