Seventy years ago today, 1 February 1944, the 157th RCT: At 0355, 1st Bn completed relief of 2nd Bn, 36th Engineers. At 0420, 2nd Bn completed relief of 3rd Bn, 36th Engineers. Division informed at 0645 A. 1st Bn at (788297); 2nd Bn at (808293);. 1st Bn observed enemy troops at (775315.) G-3, 45th Division informs 157th RCT a C-47 to lend east of Nettuno, all units hands off. Units informed of above information. F0 #1 -- distributed to all units at 0930A. Rcn on routes of approach to new possible CP at 1045A. At 1110A one platoon of Mine sweepers attached to 1st Bn for Mine laying detail. At 1545, 894th Tank Destroyers Bn, two Cos attached to Regt, already in position. Fire defense plan of 1st Bn and unit dispositions of 2nd Bn sent to Division. British Staffs - on limiting line at 1857. CO, 157th orders CO 2nd Bn to move up immediately to limiting line instead of planned time of 2130A. All units informed of enemy counterattack possibilities. At 2107, British A-T defense on West coast replacement by Regt guns. At 2330A, 1st Bn patrol reported enemy working on bridge at (783315), 5 motorcycles and one tank just to rear. TD Liaison officer to check on reported armor. At 2355A, Executive Officer, 2nd Bn reports Co F in position at (828312) and Co E at (838317). WIA – 2.
