Several persons are feared killed , many more injured and properties destroyed in a renewed ethno-religious violence in the Wukari town of Taraba state A resident said he and his household were now taking refuge inside the bush, said trouble started after Jukun and Hausa youth clashed at Sabon Gari and Kantana wards and also around the market area of the town. “As we speak, almost the whole of Sabon Gari has been burnt down,” he said. He said the attackers raided the area as early as 7a.m. Another resident, Suleiman Adam, also said no one is sure of the reason for today’s attack. He however said an Hausa youth, who operates a GSM call centre at Sabon Gari, had a misunderstanding with a Jukun youth on Saturday and his shop was razed last night. “But that incident was not serious and everything seemed to have been settled,” he said. The violence is now said to have spread to Rafinkada, a nearby town and is moving towards Ibi. Some of the fighters are said to be dressed in military uniform. The spokesperson of the Police command in Taraba, Joseph Kwaji who confirmed the incident, however said the police were yet to have adequate details of the violence. Mr. Kwaji said, the Police and Army authorities have since deployed their personnel to the town and were working round the clock to restore calm.
