Seychelles, June 8, 2014…Foreign Affairs and International Trade Cabinet Secretary Ambassador arrived in Seychelles for a two day official visit at the invitation of the Seychelles Government. The visit is a follow up of the recent visit to Kenya by Jean Paul Adam Seychelles Foreign Affairs Minister. The visit stems from a strong willingness of both countries to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries and to further relations in areas of mutual interest. The two countries look forward to enhance friendship and cooperation in traditional areas in the fields of tourism, aviation, labour and trade, as well as exchanges in new fields such as security, maritime security, commerce, investment fisheries sport and culture. During Amb. Amina Visit, A Joint Cooperation Agreement establishing the framework of the new frontiers will be signed which will also see the establishment of the Kenya- Seychelles Joint Commission for Cooperation that will monitor the implementation of the Agreement and identify areas of further co-operations. During Jean Paul visit to Kenya in March two instruments were signed: An MOU on political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries; and An Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation. The MOUs once effected will create a forum for the two countries to collaborate on a wide range of matters of common interest at all levels of government and also deepen cooperation in areas of Trade and Commerce, reducing the tariff and non tariff barriers to trade and investments between the two countries. Amb Amina later in the evening met with Kenyans working in Seychelles. She assured them of the government concerns about the Kenyans in diaspora and what the ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade is doing to ensure the welfare of Kenyans living aboard is assured. She said under her watch the transfer of labor will be streamlined to ensure unscrupulous agencies are not licensed. Kenyans in Seychelles wanted the country to facilitate information on what to expect when they travel aboard to ensure they do not suffer from culture shocks. Kenyans expressed their joy on learning of the removal of double taxation requirement which they said was draining their hard earned income. Amb Amina will also pay a courtesy call on James Michel, President of the Republic of Seychelles and also hold bilateral discussions with high government officials to discuss ways to advance and expand both countries relationship to a new level of partnership.
