Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls MP has questioned whether the Help to Buy scheme is a success, calling on the Bank of England to review the scheme. Ahead of the publication of the latest GDP figures tomorrow, Ed Balls MP has written an article for thePoliticsHome website where he questions the success of the Help to Buy scheme. Within the article, the Shadow Chancellor states that the Help to Buy scheme is failing to take action to boost housing supply and that the scheme risks making home ownership even more unattainable for aspiring first time buyers. He calls on the Bank of England to urgently review the details of the Help to Buy scheme, to properly establish its effects on the housing market. He also reiterates his call, in line with the IMF, to bring forward £10 billion of infrastructure investment in 2013 and 2014, which he argues could be used to build 10,000 affordable homes.
